Celestial Encounters explores Baroque music as a global practice, tracing the circulation of sacred and instrumental works across European convents, courts, and Jesuit missions to Qing-dynasty China.
Featured artists: Arwen Myers, soprano • Andrew Wong, violin • Joyce Cheng, harpsichord
Works by Barbara Strozzi, Isabella Leonarda, Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre, and Corelli alongside music by Jesuit missionary-composers Teodorico Pedrini and Joseph-Marie Amiot. Performed on period instruments, the concert reveals how sound, belief, and knowledge traveled across borders in the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries.
